| Are you retired or planning your
retirement from Agilent or HP? If you live in or near Colorado
Springs, CO consider spending a few hours a week or month
volunteering with other A/HPRV members in support of one or
more of our local community organizations. The hours can be
flexible, and the work is usually easy, fun, and it can be
shared with one or two old HP or Agilent friends. |

We are currently working with a number of organizations in the Colorado
Springs Area, and continue to add new ones depending upon where our members
desire to volunteer their time. We have been organized for three years,
and we now have about 60 retiree volunteers and spouses who donate their
time at the following organizations.
School Districts 2,11,12, and 20:
The Retiree Volunteers picked this as our first project for volunteering.
Our impact on the K-5 science program has been very well received by the
school districts. We have received a Red Apple Award from Harrison District
#2 along with repeated recognition from the other districts as well. The
work with these school districts consists of refurbishing the hands on
science kits used in teaching science in grades K-5. These are the kits
that HP was instrumental in helping the school districts procure and initiate
their use to enhance science education. The science kits are a substantial
aid for the teachers, and the kids are excited about using them in class
as a hands-on way to learn science. The topics are varied and present
a surprising depth for understanding scientific topics. There are also
opportunities for retiree volunteers to help teachers in the classroom
for those who prefer to work directly with the students.
Habitat for Humanity:
At Habitat for Humanity retiree volunteers assist in building houses for
needy families in the community. Habitat is very active in Colorado Springs
and builds several houses a year for this purpose. This is a great opportunity
to learn some new skills. It is not necessary to have a high level of
skill in the building trades to participate and make a contribution. Work
is planned so there are skilled tradesmen to help and teach you as needed.
El Paso County Parks:
Here retiree volunteers contribute their time as docents, providing visitor
information, or other special projects at either the Bear Creek Regional
Park Nature Center or the Fountain Creek Regional Park Nature Center.
If you enjoy working with children and the general public, this is for
you. Training covering all facets of the work is provided twice a year
for volunteers.
Memorial Hospital:
Volunteers play an important role and are an essential part of Memorial
Hospital, performing a variety of services to help patients and visitors.
This is a great way to gain personal satisfaction, learn through new experiences,
and to make a recognized contribution in the community. There are over
20 different areas where retirees can volunteer their time.
A/HPRV is open to all Agilent and HP retirees and former employees who
were employed at least ten years. Spouses of members are also welcomed.
We have a board that meets monthly, a quarterly newsletter to keep members
informed, and an annual luncheon meeting for members. For more information
about how to join, and about volunteering opportunities please call our
office at Agilent in Colorado Springs at (719) 590-2657. The office is
not manned on a regular schedule, so leave a message and we will get back
to you. You can also email us at AHPRV@agilent.com.
