This wildlife area situated east of Seaside consists of 2,940
acres of state-owned land managed by the Oregon Department
of Fish and wildlife. Established in 1969 Jewell Meadow‘s
purpose is to provide a winter feeding area for 250-260 Roosevelt elk. The main reason for feeding is to keep the hungry elk
off nearby private properties, preventing crop damage. Since
1972 they have offered tractor-pulled wagon excursions free to
the public, giving people the opportunity to feed elk by tossing
alfalfa and feeding during the tour. It has been recommended
HPREC members go to Seaside and spend Friday night and go
to Jewell Meadows Saturday morning, the feeding time begins
at 9:00 a.m. If interested contact Eric and Sue at
